Located about fifty kilometers from the center of Tokyo, Mount Takao is a popular destination for hiking on Sunday. It can be seen including several rows of statues that represent one of the most popular deities of Japan: Jizo, whose role is to deliver souls from hell, to protect children and bring fertility. It is often wearing a red cap, the color is supposed to ward off demons and disease.
